French strikes bring misery to 20,000 passengers

Industrial action by French air traffic controllers 2 weeks ago will have yet again caused the cancellation of many passengers’ flights

Ryanair was among the worst affected airlines, with disruption on flights to Barcelona, Bergerac, Blagnac, Bordeaux, Madrid, Marseille, Palma, Perpignan, Nimes and Ibiza.

The carrier’s marketing director, Kenny Jacobs is quoted as saying: “Enough is enough. If the French government is serious about changing France, they should start by tackling these air traffic control unions.”

Ryanair has called on French president Emmanuel Macron and the European Commission to take ‘immediate action’ to end the latest wave of air traffic control (ATC) strikes taking place today.

The carrier said it had been forced to ground 110 flights with further cancellations and delays likely due to the national walkout by French ATC unions.

British Airways has also been forced to cancel a number of flights, including those to Nice, Marseille, Lyon and Barcelona.
