British Airways’ billion-dollar New York route
In The Independent (Sunday) Simon Calder analysed the only billion dollar route in the world: British Airways‘ flights between Heathrow and New York JFK.
Last year, according to flight schedule specialist OAG, BA earned £1.04 billion (six per cent of its total revenue) on the link and the company also earned additional revenue on other routes to New York from London City and Gatwick, as well as its flights to Newark from Heathrow.
He wrote that customers flying between London and New York prioritise flying from Heathrow and the flexibility the BA schedule offers, with around one flight every half-hour between 6.30am and 9.30pm. The BA route is 21 per cent ahead of its nearest rival.
