Today fatal aviation accidents have been reduced to 1 in 22.8 million flights which is extremely low. The enhancements made over the last decade have made history in aviation by making it the safest it has ever been.

Dispute the recent incident in Columbia where an Avro 85 crashed killing 71 people there were only 17 other civilian aircraft flights accounting for a total of 320 deaths in 2016. Back in 1970 there were 350 million passengers carried by commercial aircraft. In 2016 this figure has risen to 3.5 billion.

The improvements in incidents with fatalities have been down to better safety procedures and standard operating procedures especially with smaller airlines, technical upgrades to aircraft making them more reliable and easier to manage and increased collaboration among countries to improve aviation infrastructure and training in developing countries.
