Comfort and Convenience

Kinder Fluff Sun Protector for Pilots

Kinder Fluff Sun Protector for Pilots

Do you find that you spend half of your life in the flight deck hiding from the sun? A rather strangely named but incredibly effective product called 'Kinder Fluff' sticks to the windshield using static, protecting you from the sun.

It's incredibly convenient and takes up very little space in your flight bag. We recommend the 20x12 inch. 51x31cm size.

They come in a pack of 4 blinds. 2 of these blinds are typically needed to cover one side of the windshield (i.e. 2 blinds will cover most of either the First Officers or Captains forward windshield).

Mirror for the Flight Deck

Mirror for the Flight Deck
Does the setup of your aircraft require you to keep turning your head to see a screen behind you (like a surveillance screen)? This telescopic mirror fits perfectly in flight deck pen holders and is very adjustable. If the pen holders are setup in the right place (they are on the B777!), you can set it up perfectly to view a screen behind you, stopping the need to twist round throughout the flight.
Wenger Swiss Potomac Pilot Flight Bag

Wenger Swiss Potomac Pilot Flight Bag
Out of all the flight cases I’ve owned, this is the one I swear by. I’ve owned a number of Wenger Swiss cases, but I find this one in particular to be the perfect size. It fits perfectly between the seat of a B777 and the side wall so I’m sure it would fit by the pilots seat in most commercial aircraft. It’s incredibly well built, with mine looking as good as ever despite it being banged about for a few years. The various storage options are incredibly convenient, with pockets for your passport, licence, pens, paperwork, laptop, iPad etc.

iPad Holder which fits Boeing Control Column

iPad Holder which fits Boeing Control Column
When in the cruise, it's nice to be able to use your iPad or EFB (Electronic Flight Bag) by looking straight ahead and without having to hold it. This holder fits perfectly around a Boeing control column. Disclaimer - this is clearly not an airline or manufacturer approved device.
Flight Bag Cable Organiser

Flight Bag Cable Organiser
I found that I was carrying so many cables in my flight bag that it would quickly become disorganised, tangled and messy. I bought this Cable Organiser which has probably been the best addition to my flight bag that I’ve bought. It keeps your cables neat and tidy and also has plenty of room to store a portable power bank and plug adaptor.

Laptop & iPad Case for Flight Bags
I found this laptop case perfectly fits my 15” device and also has a separate pocket for my iPad, allowing both devices to be carried in a single case. It feels good quality, is well built and is very well padded which provides excellent protection.

iPad Pro Case
I found this case to be a really good purchase for a number of reasons. Firstly, it's cheap! Secondly, when you aren’t using your iPad, the folding cover protects your IPad’s screen which is very handy when it’s in your flight bag. Thirdly, being able to ‘stand the iPad up’ using the stand at the back of the case allows you to brief from it effectively, rather than standing over it. It’s also very helpful when down route if you want to watch something on your device.
Keyboard & Trackpad for iPad Pro

Keyboard & Trackpad for iPad Pro
It’s quite pricey, but this really did transform my iPad. I hadn’t appreciated the functionality of a trackpad and keyboard coupled with an iPad, which it makes it more akin to a laptop. There are cheaper versions available, but they are typically Bluetooth devices which don’t work quite as well. This Logitech version is very similar to the actual Apple version (£319), but quite a bit cheaper. When not in use, the keyboard is detachable and can be reattached with the facing inwards (and therefore hidden) at the back of the iPad. This allows it to fit onto an iPad mount on the flight deck without the keyboard being exposed. It has an extremely effective back stand that allows the iPad to be stood up at any angle. It’s brilliant for doing admin down route.

Fitbit Charge 6

Fitbit Charge 6
I’ve found that as a long-haul pilot, keeping track of how much sleep I get and how active I am is really important. The Fitbit Charge 6 is a brilliant device to do this with – as it’s a band rather than a full watch, you can wear it on whichever wrist you don’t wear your traditional watch on without it looking out of place. The device can breakdown your sleep and tell you how much deep/REM/light sleep you are getting, as well as record data like heart rate variability, oxygen levels and even carry out an ECG!
