Delta raises profit forecast, shares jump

Delta Air Lines has reported better-than-expected profit for the fourth quarter, helped by higher business fares and a busy holiday travel season.

The airline forecast even better performance in the current quarter on strong demand for seats, and the results sent its shares up 3.5 percent in pre-market trading.

Delta forecast total unit revenue to increase by 2.5 per cent to 4.5 per cent in the first quarter of 2018. Delta’s net income for the fourth quarter dipped to $572 million, or 80 cents per share, in the quarter ended December 31, from $622 million, or 84 cents per share, a year earlier.
